2 Accessibility of SIXT's e-commerce services
a. General description and explanation of the services and information on how the services work
We offer a booking function for various mobility services via our website and the associated SIXT app as a service in electronic business transactions. By using the website and the SIXT app, you can find out about and book the following mobility services:
- Car and truck rental: Car and truck rental with prior booking via the website or SIXT app.
- SIXT Share & SIXT Share 3rd Party: After booking via the Sixt app, cars parked in a specific usage area can be unlocked and rented against payment of a time-based or mileage-based fee.
- SIXT+ Unlimited: By paying a mobility commitment fee and, if applicable, an entry fee, a vehicle from the contractually agreed vehicle category including benefits and including certain services can be taken over, returned and exchanged at all participating Sixt Unlimited stations without further payment.
- SIXT+ auto abo: This is an all-inclusive car subscription in which customers are permanently provided with a car in return for paying a monthly basic fee.
- SIXT Ride: Taxi & chauffeur services can be booked.
Firstly, you can find out more about the mobility services mentioned on the individual subpages of the website or the sections of the SIXT app. In particular, you will find information on the scope of services, pricing, and the requirements for concluding a contract for the respective mobility service.
Depending on the mobility service, the booking function allows you to select the desired car or a specific vehicle class. After selecting and checking the selected options, you can enter your personal data (name, address, email address, driving licence details) and select the desired payment method during the booking process. Once the data has been checked, the payment is processed via an encrypted connection. You will then receive a booking confirmation via the e-mail address provided or in the respective area of your user account on the website or in the SIXT app.
In addition, the booking function on the website and in the SIXT app also allows you to manage your bookings. The bookings can be viewed, changed, or cancelled there depending on the applicable terms and conditions.
Description of compliance with the accessibility of services
When creating the accessibility of the services, we orientated ourselves on the legal requirements according to EAA, BFSG and BFSGV. EN 301 549 as a European harmonised standard and the latest version of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (hereinafter "WCAG") referred to in this standard also served as a basis. Taking into account conformity levels A and AA of the WCAG, we have taken a number of measures to ensure accessibility.
EN 301 549 and the WCAG categorise the accessibility requirements according to the four criteria (aa.) perceptibility, (bb.) operability, (cc.) understandability and (dd.) robustness. Below we have listed specific implementation measures within these four requirement areas:
aa. Perceptibility (No. 1 WCAG)
Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive. We have implemented these requirements through the following measures:
- Improved colour contrast: We have adjusted the colours on our website and in the SIXT app (all products except Ride) to ensure better readability. This is particularly helpful for users with visual impairments.
bb. Operability (No. 2 WCAG)
User interface components and navigation must be operable. We have implemented these requirements through the following measures:
- Improved usability via a keyboard: We've made it easier to navigate our site using a keyboard by assigning valid roles and required ARIA attributes to interactive elements, improving tab and focus key navigation in the various booking steps.
- Revised HTML structure: We have added semantic HTML elements such as ul, li, input and button to better support users who rely on technical aids. In addition, the heading elements on the page (such as H1, H2, etc.) have been rearranged to maintain a logical order.
- Enhanced Touch Target Size Sixt App: We have increased the touch target size for all UI components to a minimum of 44x44 pixels. This change ensures that users can easily interact with buttons and other touch elements, reducing the likelihood of accidental taps and improving the overall user experience.
cc. Understandability (No. 3 WCAG)
Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable. We have implemented these requirements through the following measures:
- Fixed image descriptions: We corrected missing or incorrect descriptions for images. This means that users will get the more information about images even if they can't see them.
- Improved explanatory texts for interactive elements: We have ensured that explanatory texts for interactive functions such as carousels are much clearer and easier to understand. This makes it easier for users to know what actions they can perform, such as playing or pausing a slideshow.
dd. Robustness (No. 4 WCAG)
Maximize compatibility with current and future user agents, including assistive technologies. We have implemented these requirements through the following measures:
- Enhanced Text-to-Speech Readers Compatibility: We added tags (e.g., alt attributes) and descriptions to elements to ensure that Text-to-Speech readers can describe them to users who rely on audio descriptions.
3. Accessibility of SIXT's electronic communications services
To ensure accessibility for all customers, SIXT offers multiple contact channels tailored to a variety of needs. Customers can reach us by phone, which supports individuals with visual impairments who may prefer verbal communication over text-based formats. For those who may be deaf or hard of hearing, written support is available through our email contact, and live chat options on the SIXT website and app. Our mobile app also provides integrated support features and is optimized for screen readers, enabling customers to access assistance directly from their devices. Additionally, customers may use social media channels for inquiries, offering another accessible, text-based method of communication. These various options ensure that customers can choose the contact method that best aligns with their accessibility needs and preferences.
4. Internal reporting centre for accessibility at Sixt
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the accessibility of our services, you are welcome to contact our internal accessibility reporting centre at any time. Please feel free to contact us at accessibility@sixt.com.
5. Indication of the competent market surveillance authority
Following ratification of the state treaty on the fulfilment of tasks under the BFSG by the federal states, the responsibilities of the market surveillance authorities of the federal states were transferred to a central body. Accordingly, the Market Surveillance Authority of the Federal States for the Accessibility of Products and Services (“Marktüberwachungsstelle der Länder für die Barrierefreiheit von Produkten und Dienstleistungen” - hereinafter referred to as "MLBF"), based in Magdeburg, is the competent market surveillance authority for the entire federal territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.
